The Bodysuit trend

It’s a saying that can be used to describe a lot of things, but I never thought it would be used to describe clothing fabric. These days, bodysuits seem to be the latest in fashion trends, and to say they’re not leaving much to the imagination would be an understatement. Some of these looks are pretty sexy, but some are just downright dirty—and that could be a good thing, depending on your level of comfort when it comes to exposure.

Jennifer Lopez recently showed off just how racy the look can be when she stepped on stage to perform at Madison Square Garden. According to event coverage from US Magazine, J.Lo’s long sleeve bodysuit was decked out in sequins, angular shoulder pads, and metallic embroidery. The plunging neckline flaunted her chest, and the high cut style showed off her famous backside. She even turned up the heat with a pair of fishnet stockings.

It definitely wasn’t the first time she’s appeared in a seductive bodysuit, and she’s not alone. Everyone—from Vanessa Hudgens and Emily Ratajkowski to Kylie Jenner and Britney Spears—is indulging in the trend. And celebrities aren’t the only ones. Just a quick peek at Lyst’s lingerie collection and you can see how popular the look is among us non-celebrity, normal folk. Among their collection of different designers, many of them are making bodysuits with varying degrees of steaminess. And given their price tags, they’re certainly not meant for celebrities. A lot of them are actually pretty budget-friendly.

I could certainly see myself sporting a lace variety. Given this season’s fondness for lace, it could help me satisfy two trends at once. But it would have to be one that could actually keep me covered, otherwise it would strictly be a bedroom-only kind of piece.

If your level of comfort is around the same as mine, you could try an outfit similar to the one that Iggy Azalea recently wore when catching a plane at LAX. It was an all-white, long sleeve piece, and crossed ties kept the deep neckline in place, so nothing was able to slip out that it wasn’t supposed to. Inquisitr writer Chanel Adams noted that the rapper “paired the super sexy look with black, ripped skinny jeans and a black and white varsity jacket.” She finished the look with a black grommet belt, white peep-toe ankle boots, and a white leather handbag.

Her outfit created a great balance between classy and sexy, but wearing it would still require some serious confidence. So, are you brave enough to give the look a go? Or is this one that you’re going to leave to the celebrities?

Personally I think you can either go skimpy on the top, or the bottom – but not both at once. If I wore a sexy body suit on the top, I think I would pair it with something longer and flowy on the bottom, or even some great wide legged trousers, or a pencil skirt that sat on the knee. Too many sexy things in one outfit cheapens the look for me. I love the blush coloured bodysuit in your picture above.

I love bodysuits, they bring me back to my ’90s childhood; I had one in every color, print and texture imaginable as a kid! They’re super easy to wear and style too and you don’t have to worry about them coming out of your bottoms, as you would with shirts!

Have a great day and start to your weekend, girlie!
